STARTKAP · CRS & TAX INFORMATION

Operate internationally.
Stay transparent.

A Georgian account belongs in your overall tax planning. Understand the information exchange, the data reported and the role of your tax residence.

01 · COMMON REPORTING STANDARD

What does CRS mean?

The Common Reporting Standard is the OECD framework for automatically exchanging certain financial account information. Banks identify reportable accounts; tax authorities exchange the details with eligible partner jurisdictions. A Georgian account is therefore not automatically hidden from the country of tax residence.

Financial institution

Checks tax residence and collects reportable account information.

Georgian authority

Receives the Georgian financial institution’s report.

Partner jurisdiction

Receives information where the legal exchange conditions are met.

02 · GEORGIA

Georgia’s timeline

  1. 2022

    Legal framework

Georgia signs the multilateral CRS agreement.

  2. 2023

    New account checks

Due diligence procedures for new accounts apply from 1 January 2023.

  3. 2024

    First exchange

The first international exchange generally covers information from 2023.

03 · CRS

Who is affected?

Individuals

A reportable account and tax residence in an exchange partner jurisdiction can trigger reporting.

Companies

Entity accounts may also be reportable, depending on their CRS classification.

Controlling persons

For certain entities, particularly passive entities, information about the individuals behind them may also be relevant.

04 · FINANCIAL INFORMATION

What data?

The precise scope depends on the account type, classification and applicable reporting rules.

  • Name and address
  • Jurisdictions of tax residence
  • Tax identification numbers (TINs)
  • Date of birth for individuals

Account & institution

  • Account or custody account number

Tax implications

Example: tax residence in Germany

Data on a reportable Georgian account may reach the German tax authorities. Incorporating a company or opening an account does not automatically move your personal tax residence. Foreign income and filing obligations still require an individual review.

Germany–Georgia double taxation treaty

The treaty allocates taxing rights and provides relief from double taxation. It does not mean that all income is taxable only in Georgia. Residence, income type, place of management and actual business activity are among the relevant factors.
